Persona 5's modern, urban setting sets it apart form a lot of other RPGS in that it confronts some very realistic and upsetting issues which happen in real life. One possible part time job is in a bar, but the character is not allowed to handle alcohol. Some personas have vaguely curved or phallic shapes.ĭrugs: references to drug deals. It should be noted that it's possible for your high school-aged character to date some adult characters. Some characters occasionally make somewhat perverted comments, but they are scolded by other characters. Moderate sex references occasionally in the dialogue. More frequent (but not constant) use of milder words such as sh*t, *ss, hell, p*ssed, etc. Language: Very rare usage of the f-word, as in less than a dozen times throughout this 100+ hour game. Early in the story a secondary character attempts suicide, but survives and recovers. References to real violence in the story, including murder and sexual assault. Some attacks show a brief blood spurt effect, however, it's silhouetted and very cartoony, also it's important to note that the players do not kill actual people/monsters, but mental cognition. Violence: Lots of mild fantasy violence during the dungeon-crawling portion, combat involves model weapons and magical spells. Its clearly an extremely creative twist on biblical themes, which can definitely be taken offensively by some. But really, this isnt new in video games.Īnd yes, there is very strong religious undertones towards the end of the game, several mentions of god, devils, angels, etc and all portrayed in a very negative light. I was shocked! This is of course in addition to the countless skantily clad women (and men) monsters in this game - one of the naked women monsters is chained up like some sort of sexual object (thats the impression I got anyway) I wouldnt say that the women characters are not overall positive role models, because they are strong and smart and aim to do the right thing, but I would not be stretching it to say women are definitely objectified in this game. however I'm not quite sure why no one mentioned that some of the "Shadows" (monsters) at the end of the game are basically penises, one of them being named "Throbbing Lust of Desire" or something like that. Based on the reviews I saw here, it seemed not so bad. I am a bit more on the conservative side when it comes to things, and I like to check this site for myself before buying games, just to check the content and make sure I personally am ok with playing it. I'm currently playing through the end of the game right now and I'll be honest - its a bit disturbing. She is unsuccessful, but the scene might still be unnerving for some players. The only worrisome thing here is the occasional frightening scene. Rather, the two characters often accused of rape and portrayed as vile villains who must be stopped. There are mentions of rape and such, but the act is never encouraged. As for sexual content, the personas that appear in the game can sometimes be scantily clad, but there's never any exposed genitalia. There isn't any blood aside from in a few cut scenes. Characters slump to the ground without blood when they die, but this effect is temporary, as characters are automatically revived after each battle. Combat is entirely turn based, and enemies simply vanish into smoke once defeated. Most of the swear words players will encounter are found in teen rated games, such as "d**n," "b*****d," "b***h," "p**s," and "hell." Violence is nearly non existent. The game does have a couple swear words, even a handful of instances of "f**k," but these are infrequent. There are a couple games that I feel common sense media describes too harshly, and this is one of them. Which Side of History?
